Grieving family want justice

HARARE - The grieving family of Tichaona Chiminya, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's slain election agent, want the culprits who doused their father in paraffin and set him alight, brought to book.

Chiminya’s eldest son, Timothy, said the Chiminya family was crying out for justice and wondered why authorities had disregarded the rule of law by failing to arrest their father’s murderers. Timothy said his family had realised there was no political intention to ensure the perpetrators of the violence were brought to book. He was speaking exactly 10 years after the murder of his father in political violence that engulfed the 2000 poll.

“I still remember the day with a heavy heart as the murder of my father happened when I at school at Murambinda High, which is just a few metres from the scene of accident,” said Timothy.

Timothy, who is still single and self-employed, said he saluted the bravery shown by his father in bringing democracy to Zimbabwe. “I salute him for the fight he undertook in making sure that the people of Zimbabwe are truly free,” he said.
