The report leaked to the media was presented to JOMIC recently by MDC, but no action has been taken to bring peace to affected areas. Villagers in rural areas such as Uzumba-Maramba Pfungwe, live in constant fear of marauding Zanu (PF) youths. In Mrewa, terror campaigns are spearheaded by identified soldiers deployed under the phased-out Maguta programme.
According to the document, MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, continues to be denounced despite being Prime Minister under GPA. MDC supporters are threatened with death if they do not join Zanu (PF). Perpetrators of violence in Maramba Pfungwe were identified as Isaac Pindirire, Michael Mutondo, Movern Bhawa, Amos Bhawa, Chris Gunduza, Maxwell Gunduza, Norman Gahara, Farai Muperuke, Poet Marau, Dungu Marau, Sternford Sakawenga, Musangi Kabayira and Golden Kadzere.
Tabulated and shocking statistics of terror, which took place in the province and continues to claim lives unabated, were shown to this reporter. The reports were reported and verified.
The report indicated that 71 politically motivated assassination of MDC followers were reported in the province. Mrewa had 20, Uzumba-Maramba Pfungwe 15, Mutoko 19, Mudzi 10, Marondera 6 and Wedza 1. The violence affected more than 3 995 people across the province.
Violence was championed by 1 167 people. 72 were involved; CIO 48, Police 48 and Zanu (PF) had 999 thugs in the campaign. Marondera had 12 CIO operatives in the elimination campaign supported by army, police and Zanu (PF) thugs. Uzumba-Maramba Pungwe, Mrewa and Mudzi, were terrorized by CIO, army, Zanu (PF) militia and police.
There were 204 perpetrators of violence in Uzumba-Maramba Pfungwe, 222 in Mrewa, 237 in Mtoko, 169 in Mudzi, 151 in Goromonzi, 106 in Marondera, 28 in Hwedza, 34 in Seke and 16 in Chikomba. Names of perpetrators of violence are also available.
In Uzumba, violence is spearheaded by Prayer Katiyo of Katiyo village, Farisai Kanembiri (Ward 8), Gamba (Chipfunde village), Apply Katiyo, Sandaramu and Fungi Fegure.
In Mudzi, Aquiline Katsande and Newton Kachepa, Zanu (PF) members of parliament or Mudzi West and North respectively, were fingered as champions of violence which claimed lives of suspected MDC supporters. George Katsande (son to MP Aquiline), is currently terrorizing people in the area. Three children under the age of six perished when a hut they were sleeping in was put on fire by suspected Zanu thugs.
MDC said there can not be a healing process without bringing perpetrators of violence to book. Morgan Tsvangirais party, which was on the receiving end of violence, said known perpetrators of violence continued to roam about scot-free. No compensation has been made for destroyed property, no arrests for murders committed and no justice has been done for other various crimes committed by known thugs.
