Swallows snapped up Machapa from United a few days after Makepekepe had booted them out of the CAF Champions League with a 2-1 aggregate win. Machapa was one of the stars in the second round second leg of that tie, which the Zimbabwean Cup Kings wrapped up with a 1-0 win at Johannesburgs Rand Stadium, after the two sides had drawn the first leg 1-1 in Harare two weeks earlier.

On Wednesday, Zobel told The Zimbabwean that he was delighted with his scoop. I am very happy that we managed to sign Machapa because he is a very good player and there is no doubt about that, said the German-born coach. He has outstanding qualities. He is a very good dribbler, passer and can crack a good shot. He really knows how to play the game and has a very high level of education in it and is not developmental material.

Zobel said that the 22-year-old Zimbabwean midfielder, one of the four who remained behind when Caps returned to Zimbabwe after the CAF game, had shown during his one-week familiarisation tour that he was a very good team player.

He is such a shining player and I am assured that he will not take long to adjust to both our type of play and the ABSA Premiership. I also do not think that he will stay here for long because he is just a player for the bigger leagues, added Zobel.

The Swallows coach said that Machapa, who has since returned to Harare , is expected to rejoin his new team mates in June, when Swallows begin their preparations for the new season.
