According to a letter written by Mashonaland East members of the executive, Chabvamupero took the money on behalf of the province in order to set up an office in Marondera.
“At the first all stakeholders meetings he took delegates allowances, all delegates can confirm this. He took the money meant for office rent and used it to start his chicken project instead of giving the money to the treasurer. He only returned part of the money after selling the chickens,” reads a letter that the provincial leadership wrote to the party Organising Committee.
The letter also accuses Chabvamupero of diverting money earned from selling party membership cards as well as donated funds and material to his relatives.
Fed up with the tactics of the chairman, who is said to be fanning divisions in the province by encouraging other members to join the smaller MDC formation led by Arthur Mutambara, members of the executive have decided not to attend meetings that are called by Chabvamupero at Harvest House.
“The province has broken down. We no longer work together. This is a case of failed leadership and all districts are now calling for his removal because we will loose elections because of him,” reads the letter.
