Village head accused of stealing

BULAWAYO - A village head in Nkayi district has been accused by villagers of misappropriating seed that was donated by President Roberty Mugabe earlier this year.

Nosizi Dube, the district administrator for Nkayi in Matabeleland North, was given maize, beans, peas and nuts to distribute to farmers who were struggling to access inputs. According to Nkayi Rural District Council Chair, Councillor Kufakwezwe Ncube, about 10 tonnes of the seed were not distributed and Dube has been accused of hoarding it. “Our district was allocated 30 tonnes which was enough for most of our people, but some has been stolen by the administrator,” he said.

Ncube accused the district administrator of distributing the inputs to her friends and relatives in Lupane. “When I challenged Dube, I was told that the council should not interfere with the distribution of seed. But as councillors we were elected by the people and we are supposed to represent their concerns,” he said. When contacted for comment Dube denied the allegations. She insisted that the seed was fairly distributed and that the most deserving villagers benefited from the scheme. “Those are lies. When the seed was donated there were also funds for distribution. In fact everything was done at the GMB depot although I presided over the distribution process. If they say I kept some of the seed in my house that is incorrect and unfair,” she said.
