The civic society, which wrote to Zuma last month, also urged the President to deal with the constant harassment of its members. Zimbabwe Coalition Crisis spokesman Sydney Chisi said the South African President had pledged to intervene. We were informed by our South African offices that through the offices of President Zuma, they have been assured that he is going to respond to our request . He remains an important player in Zimbabwes talks to find a lasting political solution.
The civic society was prompted to write a letter to Zimbabwes mediator following the arrest of Zimrights Director Okay Machisa for a photo exhibition which was going to show case images of the 2008 political violence. The police seized the exhibition photos before they were ordered by the courts to release them. Despite the court order, the police went on to threaten the exhibition which led to organisers abandoning the event.
