This is the seventh in a string of robberies that are believed to be connected. It has been alleged that a gang has been targeting farmers and others in the area.
Below is a sequence of related robberies in the area over the past few months:
1.Boesman’s manager robbed on Lewis Farm, Somabhula. Date unknown.
2. Monday March 1, Hapelts tied, assaulted and robbed at Grasslands
Farm, Somabhula
3. Monday March 21, Moffats tied, assaulted and robbed near Shangani store, Main Bulawayo Rd.
4. Monday March 29, Ann Lourens and Charles Schoultz tied, assaulted and robbed on Granleigh Farm, near Wida siding, Somabhula
5. One suspect arrested in Lower Gweru. Property recovered including A. Lourens’s digital camera with pictures taken by suspects of themselves, families and friends (Vungu River often in background).
6. Wednesday April 21, gang of three shot at Hapelts’ worker on Grasslands Farm. Police called out but men fled.
7. Wednesday April 21. Later same day Victor Mhanga hit by gang and robbed on his farm, Somabhula.
8. Thursday April 22, John and Debbie Anderson tied, assaulted, robbed on their farm near Gweru.
9. Friday May 7, Jannie and Yvonne Liebenburg robbed in Heynie Liebenburg’s house, Daisyfield. Jannie shot in arm and beaten.
The suspects who have been identified by the victims are said to be brothers Frank and Lovemore Mophosa. These men are allegedly known by the police but have not yet been apprehended.
