Gwanda Mayor, Councillor Lionel De Necker, said this was part of the town council’s attempts to market the Matabeleland South capital.

He said Gwanda town Council had agreed that everyone who supported soccer would be allowed to wear the soccer jerseys of the teams they supported when going to work or at home every Friday until the end of the World Cup games.

“We are marketing the town ahead of the FIFA World Cup soccer extravaganza by establishing club facilities and fan parks where people will be able to mix and mingle to watch matches during the games, said the Mayor.

The Gwanda Mayor said despite the fact that the council was very eager to entertain visitors during the games, accommodation was limited and visitors would have to pass through the town to places where there was adequate accommodation.
