The Day of the African Child is an African Union sanctioned calendar day in all African countries and traces its history in the Sharpeville incident of 16 June 1976 when hundreds of black school children where massacred in Soweto, South Africa.
This years commemoration would be held under the theme, Planning and budgeting for the well being of the child: A collective responsibility.
In correspondence to various partners, the Ministry said due to financial constraints it would not be able to meet all the requirements of the day and appealed for donations to make the event successful.
