But I find that when the Lord wants to tell me something or for me to read a verse it can be anywhere, any time. I will be busy doing something and boom, The Holy Spirit will say something, or Im about to go to bed, Im tired and the Lord speaks.
Some people try and make their relationship with God into this constantly spectacular thing. They think they must be screaming, kneeling, hands held high, tears rolling down their faces to be really in communion with God. But really, its all about the focus of our lives.
Part of a good marriage is that both parties can be with each other, not say a word and yet enjoy each others company. Theres a place for this kind of attitude in prayer. God wants us to mature so we enjoy just hanging out with Him. The important thing about our prayer lives is let it not become regimental, or religious. Dont let Satan beat you up because you dont spend half to an hour every day locked up in a closet, tearing down, strongholds, rebuking demons and screaming. God is pleased with you just as you are. So much of the traditional teaching on prayer is impossible to implement in our daily lives.
Are you a mother of small children? You are missing God if you lock your self in a room for some time while your children go unsupervised. Letting your children tear the house apart while youre in there talking to God, is not spiritual. In the times you cannot be alone with Him, you can pray without ceasing all day every day, we can be in constant communion with Him. If you can have time alone, on your knees praying that is wonderful – take advantage of it. Just remember prayer does not have to be that way to please God. You should be able to pray when you are driving down the road, (eyes open), when you are working, doing laundry etc. Paul says in Timothy, exercise thyself unto Godliness.
Like physical exercise to be a way of life takes time and discipline. Instead doing the laundry and worrying or thinking what a pain your neighbour is, start working at changing your thoughts and begin to think about the Lord and His goodness. Think about one of the scriptures you recently read, what does it mean, if you think it means something specific is another scripture with the same thoughts? Suddenly you are grabbing you Bible or looking up a concordance to see if the Bible speaks about what you read somewhere else. –

Im at my best first thing in the morning, so I get up early to spend that time when its quiet, reading, studying and praising Him.
