Kasukuwere threatens to invade banks

kasukuwereGWANDA - Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere (Pictured) has threatened banks with invasion.

Addressing war veterans and Zanu (PF) supporters at Joshua Nqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic in Gwanda on Saturday, Kasukuwere accused international banks with branches in Zimbabwe of supporting white commercial farmers saying war veterans wont be stopped if they start invading them. These international banks with branches in our country are very arrogant, they only want to support 4000 white farmers here and they see no business from blacks. I would like to warn them that war veterans wont be stopped if they descend on them.

Hunger will force them to go to extremes like what happened during the land invasion after whites refuse with our land, he said. Kasukuwere, who was on tour of rural Matabeleland, claimed that all parties in the inclusive government – including the mainstream MDC – supported the controversial Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act that forces foreign owned businesses to cede 51 percent to locals.

But last month the Act was suspended after Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirais MDC condemned the regulations saying they shattered every hope of luring desperately needed foreign capital. Tsvangirai, a former trade unionist seen as friendlier to business, said the unity government would review the controversial law before implementation. Zanu (PF) had sent foreign-owned business into panic with threats of stiff penalties against firms that fail to sell 51 percent stake to locals by March 2015.
