JOHANNESBURG Zimbabwean teenage sensation, Knowledge Musona, stands to win a cash reward of R50 000, as he is one of the players in the running for the 2009/10 season ABSA Premierships Jet Rookie of the Year award. The award rewards the best performing newcomer in the elite South African league and Musona, who joined Johannesburg-based glamour club – Kaizer Chiefs, at the beginning of the just-ended league campaign, is a hot favourite after proving to be a revelation for his club and the league itself.
Given the big number of followers that Kaizer Chiefs has, the 19-year-old former Black Aces Academy striker might land the award, as soccer fans are the ones that vote for the ultimate winner, to be announced in July.
A winning chance for Musona, who joined Chiefs from the Black Aces Academy alongside fellow countrymen and defenders Thomas Sweswe and Zhaimu Jambo, hinges on the ability by his clubs supporters to outvote their counterparts from other highly-supported clubs, especially Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
