Students benefit from feeding scheme

CHINHOYI - At least 9,200 students in Makonde are benefiting from the schools feeding and educational material support programme launched by Farm Community Trust Zimbabwe (FCTZ).

FCTZ Provincial manager, Alois Rwambiwa, said the project was implemented in January 2009 in Makonde, and was being financed by Oxfam Novib. The goal of this programme is to improve the standard of education in rural areas, said Rwambiwa. Each student will receive textbooks, pens, exercise books, pencils and rulers. Schools will receive blackboards, chalks and textbooks.

The donation will go a long way in improving learning standards in rural schools which have plummeted due economic challenges, said Rwambiwa The FCTZ feeding project has been helpful to the local Makonde community because some parents were failing to provide food for their children.
