According to The Sunday Times, the team will be headed by Professor Mandivamba Rukuni or Professor Sam Moyo. Other potential members include Prosper Matondi, Jeanette Manjengwa, Vincent Hungwe, Patricia Masanganise, Professor Rudo Gaidzanwa, Maxwell Mutema, Reneth Mano and Mabe Munyuki-Hungwe. Insiders at the Ministry of Agriculture said background checks were being carried out on all of the team members before the composition of the team could be announced. The land audit will be carried out by the Land Audit Commission which was set up by Mugabe.
According to a government source, the members of the team had to be, politically correct and vetted. The team will be watched very closely by those who experienced great loss through land redistribution, and by those who have watched as government cronies amassed farms at the expense of the people. The European Union has allegedly given US$8 million for the process.”The commissioners will be paid a whopping US$20 000 each for six months and their assistants will be paid US$1 000 each,” an insider said.
The purpose of the commission is to investigate how land was redistributed but also to look into land usage and how crop production could be maximised. The commission’s terms of reference include ensuring a uniform tenure system countrywide.
