Zanus campaign targets churches

HARARE Zanu (PF) has intensified its political campaign by starting to pay visits to local churches in a last ditch attempt to garner support.

On Saturday the partys political, Webster Shamu, controversial war veteran Association chair, Jabulani Sibanda, senior party members Ephraim Masawi and Dickson Mafiyosi, attended a Johani Masowe church service in Madziwa where they urged church members to support President Robert Mugabe. At the church service the Johane Masowe leader, Mudzidzi Jowasi, called for the lifting of sanctions imposed on Zanu (PF) officials.

According to the alleged Zanu (PF) party re-invigoration document circulating in Harare, the party has targeted churches with huge following in an attempt to influence its leaders to spread Zanu (PF) propaganda. On April 19 a Chivi-Mwenezi Senator and Masvingo provincial governor, Josiah Hungwe, was heckled by followers of Johane Masowe Apostolic sect when he tried to convert their church service in to a political rally.
