Zimbabweans rushed almost en masse to the MDC that was lunched in 1999. When the MDC split Zimbabweans rushed in two different directions following the two factions of the party that had now become sworn enemies. Even one-man gangs have been able to attract followers among Zimbabweans with promises of salvation as happened in Tsholotsho where Jonathan Moyo triumphed as an independent candidate until crossing the floor to rejoin Zanu (PF).
But what is it that makes Zimbabweans so eager to follow whoever comes along claming to be the saviour? To find out Edinah Masanga spoke to Timothy Chiguvare, the interim president of the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) that is scheduled to announce its birth next month. Below is what Zimbabwes next Saviour says:
QUESTION (Q): Why should Zimbabweans follow you, what is in it for them?
ANSWER (A): God has sent me to them, it is my understanding that all people have been created in the image of God, as long as I have eyes to see and ears to hear I will always be a father of the fatherless, a benefactor to the poor and a companion to the lonely as an assignment of God.
I am gearing myself to be a father of the nation of Zimbabwe who has authority and that authority is built and to bring order out of chaos, by carefully resolving the thorny land reform issue to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
Q: What is your plan to fix broken Zimbabwe? How do you plan to revive the economy?
A: The PPP Peoples Progressive Party is a unifying force that will soon turn the country around and make it a rainbow nation and bring back investors who were chased away by Zanu (PF)s harsh and destructive domestic and foreign policies. Since stability is also a watch word for investors; PPPs policies will suit the requirements of the EU (European Union), World Bank and the international business community.
Q: And who really are Timothy Chiguvare and the PPP?
A: The PPP is an agent for real change and the way out for the people of Zimbabwe has come and their time is now. I, Pastor Timothy J.M. Chiguvare, I am the peoples president and I am a real blessing to PPPs high-ranking officials because I am the key figure in critical thinking; planning and devising new party tactics or strategies.
