“We already have a network server in place and we are now only waiting for the software to be installed. This is a programme which started at Harare International Airport before it rolled into Victoria Falls and the next place is Beitbridge Border Post,” she said.
Shadaya said the computerisation programme was similar to the one used by the South African Department of Home Affairs at its entry ports.
It is hoped that the new system would also help in detecting criminals on the police wanted list as well as those using fake and stolen passports to cross borders.
“This system, which will facilitate eye scanning during investigations, passport scanning and image recognition of individuals at the border post, includes computers, passport readers and network servers,” she said.
“We will also be able to clear travellers as quickly as possible and travellers are going to be processed at a faster rate, professionally and with minimum inconvenience.”
