Chihuri waters garden with water cannons

chihuri_jornoHARARE - Police commissioner Augustine Chihuri (Pictured) is using the force's Israeli-made anti-riot trucks to ferry water to his garden in Borrowdale, it has been established.

Two of the trucks, which are like fire brigade vehicles in police colours, were seen supplying water to Chihuri’s residence at 431 Binton Road, Quinnington. Neighbours said the trucks, originally used with water cannons against anti-government demonstrators, supplied water to Chihuri’s house every day.

“Obviously, this is too much water to be used for household purposes alone,” said an observer in the area. A source at Chihuri’s house confirmed that the water was needed for watering the garden. The abuse of the anti-riot trucks is seen as part of a pattern by senior members of President Robert Mugabe’s administration to enrich themselves using state facilities. Contacted for comment on the abuse, police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena listened to the question then cut off abruptly citing a ‘bad line’. Bvudzijena has previously refused to answer sensitive questions from reporters.
