COPAC made the call after reports that MDC-T activists had been abducted in Marondera following outreach programmes.??MDC-T said Rodreck Shamu and Temba Masimara of Marondera East were abducted by a group of armed men who were driving a white double-cab CAM truck.?
The party said Shamu was the first to be abducted at Twoboy business centre while the same people followed Masimara and kidnapped him at Village 17 in ward 21 of Marondera East.??
Douglas Mwonzora, the COPAC co-chairman although he had not heard about the reports, said they were not happy about the involvement of the army and the CIOs.??
I have not received those reports, Mwonzora said.I spoke to Honourable Ian Kay and Honourable Flora Buka and their reports did not mention these incidents.??But if they are indeed happening, we condemn them in the strongest terms and urge political parties to restrain their supporters.??
We also urge members of the army and CIOs to stay away from this process and allow the people of Zimbabwe to contribute their views freely without fear or intimidation.??
The outreach programme to last for 65 days has been marred by logistical problems and harassment of villagers by suspected Zanu (PF) supporters.
