Dance, but only to Mugabes tune

mugabe_teamRecent political events in Zimbabwe have cemented the reality that Mugabe (pictured) and Zanu (PF) are above the law.

MDC senator Morgan Komichi, (the MDC organising secretary) is accused by Bindura Police of undermining the authority of and insulting President Robert Mugabe after he allegedly sang a song with lyrics Chimurume chaGire chandifungisa dhongi rangu rakafa kare kare, constructed by the police to mean, Graces husband reminds me of my donkey that died a long time ago.

Police allege that Komichi sang the insulting and derogatory song when he addressed a rally at Chiwaraidzo Shopping Centre in Bindura January 2010.

My question is how many people has the President himself insulted? How many Zanu (PF) songs are out there insulting and intimidating people being played on national radio and television? I am sure most of us are familiar with a particular Zanu song entitled, The Blair that i know is a toilet? Was it not a song that insulted a head of state, Tony Blair, at that time?

In January, Nyanga North legislator Douglas Mwonzora was summoned to stand trial on allegations that he called Robert Mugabe a goblin, at a rally he addressed at Ruwanwe Growth Point in Nyanga North Constituency in March 2009.

At one of his speeches, the whole world remembers Mugabe, fist up in the air, saying, The demons in number 10 Downing Street need to be exorcised. He was referring to former prime ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Are those words surely not insulting the former Heads of State?

In the Zimbabwean traditional beliefs, someone who is a demon either owns a goblin, or has been bewitched. However, granted the number of times Mugabe has got things wrong, and the state of the country, is it not true to say that he is in fact a goblin?

Despite his having been recently acquitted on treason charges, Mugabe will still not swear in Roy Bennett as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, on grounds that he is not suitable to hold any post in the Zimbabwean Government due to the fact that he is a former Rhodesian Selous Scout, a Special Forces regiment of the Rhodesian Army.

Lest we forget, perpetrators of the Gukurahundi (the Matabeleland Massacres) have taken post after post in the government.

The recent Gukurahundi Art Exhibition was shut down by police, and artist Owen Maseko was detained by police.

Companies mining diamonds in Chiadzwa are unearthing human skeletons believed to belong to illegal miners and dealers killed during an army crackdown almost two years ago. An estimated 200 people are believed to have been killed during the operation. Until today, the perpetrators are enjoying the profits of the blood diamonds.

Mugabe uses repressive legislation to systematically deny freedom of speech, assembly and information. When detained, one sufferers torture, ill treatment or murder. There are grave human rights violations in Zimbabwe; it is in fact evident that there is no rule of law in Zimbabwe.

If there was anyone who was guilty, it is Mugabe himself. But why is the President not detained or nabbed? Because Zimbabwe has a government that is above its own laws. – masiyaniseb@yahoo.com
