Dongozi re-elected to IFJ

HARARE - Zmbabwe Union of Journalists secretary general, Foster Dongozi has been re- elected to the executive committee of the International Federation of Journalists, IFJ.


The IFJ is the global confederation representing unions and associations of journalists.

The World Congress of the IFJ ended in Cadiz, Spain, early this week culminating in the elections which saw the Zimbabwean journalist being elected to the global committee.

Dongozi was first elected to the IFJ board in 2006 at the congress held in Moscow, Russia.

The IFJ congress which ran under the theme, Journalism, in touch with the future, had another Zimbabwean flavour after former ZUJ president, Kindness Paradza was nominated to run the tense and sometimes ill tampered elections.

Jim Boumelha of the United Kingdom was retained as president while Younes Mjahed of Morrocco was elected senior vice president.

Gustavo Granero of Argentina and Olivier de Lage of France were elected as the two vice presidents.

German national, Wolfgang Mayer was elected honorary treasurer.

Other members of the IFJ board were drawn from Spain, Peru, Croatia, Italy, Senegal, Somalia, USA, Norway, India, Brazil and Cameroon.

ZUJ first vice president, Michael Chideme said it was an honour for Zimbabwe to be elected to the IFJ.

“We are privileged that one of our officials will be able to represent us at the highest level of journalism advocacy.”
