Praying Gods solution from the Word releases life, but praying negatively and focusing on your problems only energises and strengthens them, whether you realise it or not!
Many people think they are praying, but they are just griping and complaining. What Im sharing I have done. Ive arranged all night prayer meetings and sometimes people have stuck with me until the morning, others have left at 11pm, but Ive continued praying, but the reality when I look back, there was no change.
I felt real spiritual, because on the outside it seemed I was like one of the prophets of old, who prayed and interceded for Israel, but this is no longer the old covenant, we are in the new covenant, we dont have to try and impress God how spiritual we are. I remember when I was in my twenties, I was involved in everything in the church, I was out six days a week, I was doing more than the pastor, then one day the Lord spoke to me and said He no longer wanted me to be so involved but sit back and listen.
I was shocked; surely this must be the devil talking. Then the Lord said, all this work you are doing is only to impress your colleagues, you doing it for the wrong motive. I was devastated that God could say such a thing, but when I stopped whining and complaining and thought about it, I acknowledged it was true, I was trying to impress people that I was so spiritual just like those hypocrites Jesus was speaking about!
D.L. Moody began as a poor shoe salesman with very little education, and yet he had a real zeal for God and leading people to the Lord. Doors opened for him and he ended preaching all over the world and even though he was so disciplined he spent most of his time preaching. From noon to 12:45 every day he devoted it to prayer and Bible study.
This was the only time he spent in prayer because the rest of his time was spent preaching. According to current models of prayer being taught, it would be considered impossible for Moody to be so effective. A hundred years later, he still impacts the world through the Moody Bible institute in Chicago. The man did more than most of us have ever dreamed of!
