In a report released this week, the city council said houses in Nkulumane 5 were flooded every year and the only solution was to demolish them. The report said the owners had been allocated new houses and tenants staying in some of these houses had been given stands.
During last years floods, 35 families in 24 houses in this suburb were affected and lost valuables including important documents. Therefore, the city council has seen it suitable to demolish them, reads part of the report.
The councils engineering services director, Job Ndebele, said the flooding was caused by heavy rains, blocked storm drains and silting up because the stream bank had been cultivated.
