International friendly chance

dynamos_fc_116_77HARARE Harare giants Dynamos have been invited to play in an international friendly match with Libyan champions Al Ittihad on July 5 just two weeks before their African Champions League showdown with reigning African champions TP Mazembe.

The Libyan champions have written to Dynamos requesting them to make the trip for the friendly match, club chairman Farai Munetsi said this week.

According to Munetsi, the hosts will foot the costs for the trip with the two teams sharing proceeds from the gate-takings after the match. “We will be sending a strong team to Libya because this is an important practice match as we prepare for our Champions League assignment. We are already working on the travel plans for the team,” he said.

Munetsi said they would make use of the PSL break to intensify their preparations for the Champions League. Al Ittihad is currently the reigning champion in Libya. They have won the Libyan league title a record 15 times, the Libyan Cup six times and the Libyan Super Cup eight times.

They were, however, knocked out by Egyptian champions Al Ahly in the second round of the qualifiers this year after 3-2 aggregate defeat. They will now play in the Caf Confederation Cup in which they will take on Angolan side Primero de Augusto the same weekend Dynamos will be playing TP Mazembe.
