Zvidzai said he was fully behind chairperson Pinias Mushayavanhu who together with three councillors were being accused of selling non-existent commercial stands to several people in the town.
Zvidzai said although his party did not condone corruption he was convinced that Mushayavanhu was not corrupt.
The chairperson and three councillors, who all belong to the MDC party were under police investigations for allegedly selling non-existent commercial stands to several people in the town.
However some political analysts have dismissed the case as politically motivated.
I have confidence in the Mushayavanhu led Ruwa council. He is one of the few councillors who have improved service delivery in the country.”
“However as a party we are going to look into the matter and establish its authenticity. As you know we are a transparent party that believes in good governance. We do not condone corruption in all forms.
What I can confirm at the moment is the vehicle issue, which is threatening service delivery in Ruwa but I am not aware of the stand scandal, Zvidzai said.
Mushayavanhu said he did not exchange any stand with one Mukuruva with the said Pajero.
The said stand is mine which I was given by the council as an exit package when the council was dissolved when we were going for the last election. In fact its not me alone who was given that package in the form of stands, but together with seven Zanu (PF) councillors who have illegally sold them. I still have that stand and its illegal for me to sell it because its state land.
Mukuruva is long time friend of mine and at some point I hired his Pajero for personal use, not that we exchanged the vehicle with a land as alleged. This is purely politics. There is a person who wants us MDC-T councillors out of the council and we are aware of such individuals, said Mushayavanhu, adding that the police case had since been withdrawn.
MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai has declared zero tolerance to corruption. Observers said most of the corruption charges levelled against MDC councillors was political. They said Zanu (PF) was behind the cases through the Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo, who imposed special councillors in all local authorities run by MDC.
