MP receives death threats

MUTOKO - Mutoko East loosing MP, Abel Samakanda, last week received death threats after he secured bail for five MDC activists who had been arrested for stock theft and robbery after they had taken back their looted livestock from Zanu (PF) supporters.

Last week on Monday, an MDC-T activist, Kudzanai Matambazika, from Mutoko East was sentenced to three years in prison by a Mutoko magistrate for taking back his looted livestock while the fate of five others namely Nyasha Bvundura, Tendai Dzamara, Zvikomborero Bvundura, Pardon Rutsito and Zondayi Rutsito who were charged with stock theft and robbery, will be decided on June 28 this month. The five are currently out on US$50 bail each.

Samakanda helped the five to get bail and was threatened for reaching out to them. “When I was in Mutoko I came across a group of war veterans. I could only identify Chinake who told me that they were going to kill me if I continued representing MDC supporters, he said.

Despite the death threats hanging over his head, Samakanda has vowed that he would continue the fight for democracy.
