Netone to the rescue

soccer_footballMobile phone operator, Net One have have confirmed their interest to sponsor local football for the 2010 Premier Soccer League campaign.

Speaking to The Zimbabwean this week, PSL chairman Twine Phiri said the deal was almost done. He said they were waiting to tie some loose ends to the deal before announcing their partnership with Net One.

“Net One have confirmed interest to sponsor local football but I can not say much at this stage because we are still to tie some loose ends to the deal. We can only announced this once we have finalised everything,” he said.

The mobile phone operator also partnered NetOne platinum mining company Zimplats and CBZ during the high profile international friendly match against five time champions Brazil..

NetOne also sponsored the former league champions Caps United in 2005, in a development which led to a fierce row with rival company Econet Wireless who were the official sponsors of the whole league.

Econet then withdrew their sponsorship because of the bickering. The league was played the following year without a sponsor as a result of their withdrawal.
