The chairperson of the organisation, Retired Col Moses Dendere said June 27 was a very sad date in the calendar of the countrys history because it invoked sad memories of torture, abductions and beatings.
The Zimbabwe Smart Politics Campaign will be on the 27th June remembering our gallant sons and daughters, some of whom died during the barbaric violence in the period leading to the discredited June 27 Presidential run-off. Its two years now after the incident yet the people, especially in the rural areas, are still deeply scarred and in urgent and serious need for healing, said Dendere.
Dendere said the inaugural commemorations will be held at Sakubva Beithall in Mutare. We would have loved to hold the commemorations in every province but due to financial constraints and security reasons we have decided to do them in Mutare. We have chosen Manicaland because it one of the worst provinces which was affected by the violence, said Dendere.
Dendere said his organisation is planning to invite a victim of political violence to be the guest speaker at the occasion. We want to make this occasion a platform for victims of those who were hurt like Jestina Mukoko to say how they want to be healed and their land. The nation is in urgent need of the truth, through cleaning and healing, said Dendere.
ZSPC was formed soon after the formation of the inclusive government in 2008 with the aim of assisting in the process of national healing as well as trying to stop political violence in future elections in the country. The organisation has also been assisting victims of political violence with shelter and food.
