He should wake up and smell the coffee. Some of the major perpetrators of violence are employed by his own ministry which is responsible for the ZRP.
For the past 18 months Mutsekwa has been making statements that demonstrate that he is out of touch with reality and unable to make any meaningful impact on Zanu (PF)s stranglehold on power in his ministry.
It is worth noting that while he is promising Zimbabwean citizens that they will enjoy police protection during the constitution-making process, both his co-minister Kembo Mohadi and the commissioner of police, Augustine Chihuri, continue to maintain a deafening silence.
Indeed Zanu (PF) itself, from Mugabe down, has been silent on this sinister subject. There have been numerous reports in this newspaper and other media over the past few weeks of Zanu (PF) thugs gathering in various centres around the country in preparation for another reign of terror to ensure the nations approval of the Kariba Draft constitution.
In typical Zanu style where a nudge is as good as a wink this silence from on high is seen as encouragement.
Instead of promising us future action against violence, which he patently cannot deliver, maybe Mutsekwa could expend some of his energy on bringing to justice perpetrators of past violence. Many of them are known to the police and are still serving members of the armed forces and the CIO.
If he is to gain any semblance of credibility whatsoever, he needs to prove that he can at least do this.
He should also look into the miscarriage of justice whereby some MDC supporters, whose property was looted by Zanu (PF) supporters, have now been jailed for reclaiming their property.
The original thieves have got off scot free simply because they are Zanu (PF). Once again it is Mutsekwas ministry that has been responsible for this outrage.

Zanu (PF) thugs must be rolling on the floor laughing. MDC-T co-minister of Home Affairs, Giles Mutsekwa, assured the nation at the weekend that Zanu (PF) threats of violence after the World Cup were mere talk as his ministry had mechanisms to contain the situation.
