Stamp system at SA immigration

sa_home_affairsJOHANNESBURG - South African immigration and home affairs have phased out the sticker visitors permit issued to Zimbabweans visitors, and replaced it with a stamping system permit.

In an interview with The Zimbabwean this week, Beitbridge-based immigration official, Daniel Mukwevho, said his department, in partnership with home affairs, planned to phase out the sticker visitors permit with immediate effect.

After some consultation, we saw that we were losing out and over working ourselves a lot with the sticker visitors permit. The stamp system is much cheaper, convenient and easy to deal with. You just have to make sure that the ink is readily available and buy the paper, said Mukwevho.

Since Zuma took over office as the President of South Africa, a lot of changes have been made in Home Affairs. A three month visitors visa which is renewable on expiry has been introduced, and Zumas government also recognizes Zimbabweans as political and economical refugees. Zimbabweans are now being granted asylum which allows them to work and access to medication. Skilled migrants are also recognized and they are issued with permanent residence permits.
