mdc_logoTwelve MDC activists who were acquitted in April on trumped-up charges of burning the houses of Zanu PF supporters in Buhera North, Manicaland province have been served with summons to appear at the Mutare magistrates court on June 14.

Following their acquittal at Murambinda magistrates court in April, Buhera North MP and Zanu PF member, William Mutomba made futile attempts for the State officials in Murambinda to appeal against the judgment.

However, this was turned down by the State prosecutors and the resident magistrate. Mutomba then made further attempts to have the case brought for re-trial in Mutare leading to the MDC members being summoned to court in Mutare on 14 June. Meanwhile, on Sunday, an armed headmaster at Sakuinje primary school, Chipinge West also in Manicaland province disrupted an MDC Real Change rally that was being held in the area after firing gun shots in the air.

The headmaster who was only identified as Muteya and is a known Zanu PF apologist fired shots as the MP for the constituency; Hon. Sibonile Nyamudeza was addressing the gathering forcing them to flee from the rally. Police who were at the rally managed to disarm Muteya but he resisted arrest and fled.

Hon. Nyamudeza made a report about the inicident at Chipinge Police Station but no arrests have been made.
