Villagers were trained in savings management, marketing and technical skills, which will help them in running businesses in the production of paraffin, cobra, vaseline and garment making among others.
SDHF Executive Director, Wadzanayi Vere, said the main objective of the programme was to promote self-reliance among savings club members through establishment and running self-help projects.
She said they were working towards mobilising communities in the country’s rural areas to form savings clubs
“After the course, all graduands will be able to manage their business and self reliant. Our main objective is not to give hand-outs but equip women with skills for livelihood sustenance,” she said.
She said the programme would spread wings to districts in the province.
Unis Nyandoro, a beneficiary of the training programme said they appreciated the efforts by SDHF to impart them with vital knowledge in business management, but appealed to the local business community to complement such efforts by Non Govermental Organisations (NGOs) by chipping in with resources such as sewing machines and raw material.
“NGOs are doing a tremendous job in uplifting the standards of our lives here in rural areas,” said Nyandoro.
Ward 7 Bumba councilor, Elijah Mugebe thanked NGOs for supporting their community. SHDF runs a total of five saving clubs.
