Zapu pressing for devolution of power

Zapu is threatening a no vote referendum if it the issue of devolution of power and parliamentary proportional representation is not included in the countrys new constitution.

The partys director of Information and Communication Methuseli Moyo told The Zimbabwean that this position was s a product of the partys broader consultations within and outside its structures.

Zapu will not embrace any new constitution which does not address devolution of power and proportional representation issues, which Matabeleland region has been advocating for a very long time. If these two particular issues are not included in the new constitution we will definitely block the new constitution at the referendum, even if it means selling our cows and grains to raise resources for the no campaign vote, warned Moyo.

Moyo said devolution of power would ensure that people in different parts of the country decide on all aspects of their welfare both politically and economically.

To us this is the only way of getting people involved in matters that concern their lives. This is the only chance that those regions that have hitherto been disadvantaged and marginalised fully benefit from the national cake, said Moyo.

The smaller faction of the Arthur Mutambara led MDC and Simba Makonis Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn (MKD) are also advocating for the same move.
