The Kaizer Chiefs striker beat off stiff competition to clinch R50 000 following an excellent first season in the South African Premier Soccer League.

It was tough because I was competing with some of the best players in the country some of them who are the future of South African football. I would like to thank my teammates at Kaizer Chiefs, the Technical Team for the faith they showed in me last season.

The most important thing for me is to win as the team and I am hoping to contribute to more success for the team this coming season, Musonha told Chiefs official website last week.

The player won ahead of rising stars Andile Jali (Orlando Pirates), Mamelodi Sundowns Siyanda Xulu and Supersport United anchor Thandani Ntshumayelo among others.

Musona had a productive season at Amakhosi, whom he joined ahead of the 2009/10 season where he scored five league goals.

He also scored the winning goal for his club during the Telkom Knockout final against Ajax Cape Town. Musona, a product of Black Aces Youth Soccer Academy in Zimbabwe , was signed alongside countrymen, Zhaimu Jambo and Thomas Sweswe.

The Jet Club Rookie of the Year is awarded to the most outstanding rookie of the season. To be considered a rookie, a player must be in his first year in the PSL. The award was established in 2001 and is sponsored by Jet.
