Bennett in court tomorrow

Bennetts lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa and Chris Mutangadura, a chief law officer in the AGs Office confirmed to Radio VOP that the States appeal seeking to nullify the acquittal of the former Chimanimani legislator will be heard in Chidyausikus chambers on Wednesday.

Bennett, who had been on trial since last year on charges of plotting to overthrow President Robert Mugabes previous administration was acquitted in May by High Court Judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu.

Justice Bhunu ruled that the state failed to prove a prima facie case against Bennett during his high profile trial.

Bennett is Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirais pick for deputy agriculture minister in the shacky transitional unity government.

The former legislator was arrested in February 2009, shortly before he was to be sworn in, over terror charges stemming from accusations that he had funded a plot to topple President Mugabe four years ago.
