SANYATI- At least 50 armed soldiers in the company of some known Zanu (PF) militia have descended on Sanyati rural area and warned villagers against participating in the constitutional debate, The Zimbabwean can reveal.According to villagers in the Javachava area in Sanyati, soldiers were walking in pairs in the area using National Youth Service graduates to gather information in the area.
The Member of Parliament, Fungai Chaderopa of Zanu (PF) was alleged to be behind the arrangement as she was reported to be facing growing unpopularity in the area after she “dumped” her electorate.
They (soldiers) are not moving in huge groups but rather in pairs. At first we thought they were just some members of this community who were employed by the Zimbabwe National Army but we later found out that they have actually established a base with the help of the youth militia in the Kasirisiri area where they are operating from.
They are visiting some villagers and giving them warnings at night after collecting information and identifying their victims during the day, said one villager.
Villagers said Zanu (PF) was facing growing unpopularity because of their violent tendencies in the area.
One of the youth militia who was at the forefront of terrorising villagers during the 2008 violence died a pauper after succumbing to mental problems and some people learnt a thing or two when fellow villagers refused to bury him save for just a few relatives, said Tendai Misi.
They could not raise money to buy him a coffin at the funeral. Villagers refused to moan him saying it was his partys business to moan and bury such a criminal.
Some of his colleagues are also mentally derailed and it is strongly believed that it is a result of the people they killed during the 2008 violence, added Misi.
