The award, which was won by Siphelele Mthembu last year, is presented to the most exceptional debutant in the topflight each season.
The winner of the award which carries a prize money of R50 000 will be announced at Killarney Country Club on July 29 at a glittering ceremony which will be graced by the South African football community.
Musona will face stiff competition from Orlando Pirates defender Andile Jali after the two were named joint Jet Rookie of the Month for December/ January for their impressive performances in league matches for their clubs.
The winner of the award will be determined by football fans who will vote for their choice.
Other nominees for the award are Mathew Pattison and Siyanda Xulu of Mamelodi Sundowns, Leonard Augustin, Thabo Mongalo, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Thandani Ntshumayelo from Moroka Swallows.
Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo believes that Musona deserves to win the award as he has been the most influential newcomer in the South African Premiership.
He (Musona) has been outstanding for Kaizer Chiefs and this is the major reason why the club was actually able to do well, said Khumalo.
I think he deserves to win although all the other people who are in contention for the award have done well. Some people who are not supporters of Kaizer Chiefs actually believe that he was been the best young player in the league last season and this says a lot about his abilities, said Khumalo.
