Pupils refuse to chant slogans

Students of Gurura Secondary school in Mberengwa embarrassed Zanu (PF) officials by refusing to chant the partys slogans at a belated United Nations women day celebrations held at the school recently.

According to parents who attended the celebrations, a Zanu (PF) official, Lameck Hove tried to force the students to chant Zanu (PF) slogans but the students refused arguing that the occasion was not a Zanu (PF) function.

When Hove raised his right fist and said pamberi ne Zanu (Forward with Zanu), the students grumbled and booed him.

Only a few Zanu (PF) supporters among the crowd responded to Hoves slogan, said a parent who attended the function, which was also attended by Mberengwa West Member of Parliament Makhosini Hlongwani.

The parent said after the celebrations, Hove ordered the schools headmaster, Witness Zhou to punish the students but some members of the local school Development Committee who were present at the function strongly protested idea.

In his vote of thanks remarks, a local Zanu (PF) councilor blamed the schools teachers for the embarrassing incident and threatened them with unspecified action.

The councillor claimed the party had all the names of teachers at the school, belonging to the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
