Residents stranded as kombis withdraw due to potholes

potholesBINDURA - Commuters in the high density suburbs of Bindura are being forced to walk to town as drivers of kombis have stopped using certain routes due to the poor state of the roads.

This is coming at a time when the town of Bindura is slowly coming to life after a decade of recession due to closure of mines.

“We are having trouble getting into town as kombi drivers now shun driving into the township as a result we have to walk to town or wait for long periods for alternative transport,” said a man from Chipanze suburb.

The Mayor of the town, Ivory Matanhire, confirmed the roads were in bad shape.

“We are currently making efforts to fill the potholes, which now pose a danger to both motorists and pedestrians. We currently managed to obtain tar and quarry and ZINARA (Zimbabwe National Roads Agency) has indicated that it is going to give us money to repair the roads,” said Matanhire.

Matanhire urged investors to come and invest in the town, which he said had abundant reserves of nickel and gold.
