The 19-year-old midfielder, who joined ABSA Premiership club Ajax Cape Town in May last year, did not feature in any of the clubs competitive games, after the Urban Warriors had exhausted their foreign quota limit and could not register him with the Premier Soccer League.
However Ajax chief executive officer George Comitis last week appeared reluctant to release Gutu insisting his club still wanted the player although they could not use last season.
“Gutu has been on trial at SuperSport for the past week but that doesn’t mean we no longer want him at Ajax, said Comitis. SuperSport do want him but the thing is we like him though it is a pity that we couldn’t register him last season after we signed him due to foreign space limitations. We definitely don’t want to release him outright but we would rather loan him out,” he said.
A former Zimbabwe national Under-17 skipper Gutu spent last season with the Ajax youth team because of the South African leagues restrictions on foreign players.
