I was attacked by Zanu (PF) youths in May 2006 at Dombotombo Market resulting in a leg fracture. Three perpetrators of the attack led by Garikai Nyamakambo were convicted at the Magistrate Courts here and sentenced to a year in prison. Unfortunately, like any other cases involving Zanu (PF), they were released after serving only two weeks of the sentence, to campaign for Mugabes party in the following year elections, said Marange.

Since the thugs were convicted and sentenced, I have instructed my lawyers to file suits at the High Court to the tune of US$5 000 against the three. I hope to win compensation and set a precedent for other cases of violence which tore the country since the country won its independence in 1980, he added.

Marange was attacked for championing MDC-T cause in the once Zanu (PF) stronghold and provincial capital of Mashonaland East. He went on to win as MDC-T councilor for ward 4 while Ian Kay became MDC-T Member of Parliament for Marondera Central.

Should Marange win the law suit, he would open flood-gates for thousands of victims in his situation. Following the attack, he walks with the aid of a walking stick.
