WHERE ARE THEY NOW? With Mkhululi Chimoio

chamu_musanhuIt seems Zimbabwe football fraternity is having a bright future, as most of the retired football greatest players are opting for coaching with the latest candidate being the former Zimbabwe Warrior and no nonsense defender Chamu Musanhu. (Pictured: Chamu Musanhu)

Based in Liverpool, England, Chamu is currently mentoring Belfry F.C U-18 and is enjoying every moment of working with young players.

I love football, this is why I considered taking up a career in mentoring young stars as I want to see them realising their potential in the sporting industry. There is a lot of talent back home and I dont want to see that talent going into waste. I will definitely consider developing home boys into real assets.

I am very much pleased when working with young players as I dont face any serious problems when dealing with them compared to the seasoned players. Last season we were champions and this shows that there is a great working relationship between my players and the technical department. I need this legacy to be there, it is the key to guide other up-coming young stars in future.

Born 36 years ago in Harare, Musanhu started his career at Harare giants Dynamos as junior player and moved along the ranks until he got promoted into the first team at 19. He promptly established himself into one of the most feared defenders in the country, leading him to be included in the Zimbabwe national team outfits U-20, 23 and senior national team in the mid 90s. During his national team tenure, he played alongside Zimbabwean great players Engelbert Dinha, Kaitano Tembo, George Mbwando, Mercy Muposhi, the late Cain Muteji, Vitalisi Takawira, Jimmy Finch, Norman Mapeza, the late Francis Shonayi, the late midfield kingpin Benjamini Konjera, Melusi Nkiwane, Alois Bunjira, Claudias Zviripayi, Charles Yohane and Agent Sawu.

Musanhu also won a lot of silverware with the blue and white boys of Harare, and he is one of the Dembare great players who reached the African champions league final in 1998 under the mentorship of the most respected former Zimbabwean coach and former Dynamos son Sunday Chidzambwa.
