The three youths: Trust Shoko, Menard Gumbo and Tafara Zhou, were assaulted by Gumbo and Zanu (PF) youths at Mupesi business centre where the Zanu (PF) chief whip runs a bottle store and a grocery shop.
The youths first approached the MP at one of his shops and asked Gumbo why he is the only person with electricity at his homestead in the area, despite the fact that most villagers contributed money to the MP for the rural electrification programme. Gumbo did not respond to the concerns raised by the youths, said a villager who refused to be named for fear of victimization.
After two weeks the MP came from Harare where he stays and enticed the three youths to come his shops by promising them temporary piece jobs.
When the youths arrived at the shops they were immediately caught by waiting Zanu (PF) green bombers who handed them over to Gumbo. The trio was then ordered to lie on their backs and they were thoroughly beaten by Gumbo and the Zanu (PF) youths. The beatings were done in full view of everyone at the business center, said another villager who witnessed the event.
After the beatings Shoko sustained bruises all over his body and he was treated at Maorovo clinic. Repeated efforts to get a comment from Gumbo were in vain.
