sunday_mhofu_marimoPRETORIA -- Free State Stars coach Zimbabwean Sunday Chidzambwa is beefing up his side as he looks to mould a strong and competitive outfit capable of lasting the distance in the hugely demanding ABSA Premiership. (Pictured: Sunday Chidzambwa)

Free State Stars went down 0 1 to Bloemfontein Celtic in the final of the Mangaung Cup two weeks ago and Chidzambwa, who is making his debut season in the South African Premiership, does not want to take any chances ahead of tough league clashes against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The experienced Zimbabwean mentor has already signed onto the clubs books former Mpumalanga Black Aces winger Lehumo Itshegetseng on a three year contract and is also in the process of accessing former Bay United defender Lerato Makhubo.

Chidzambwa did not want to reveal the names of the other players whose services he intends roping into the club.

I will have to sit down with management first and tell them the players I am after before I can give out that information. It would not be right to divulge those details before I talk to my superiors, said Chidzambwa, who will soon be holding a meeting with the owners of the club.

Sources close to the club confirmed that Chidzambwa is targeting some players from his former club, Zimbabwean outfit Dynamos, as he feels that they have what it takes to steer the side to victory.

He has already told management that he intends to bring some players from Zimbabwe and they will be discussing the modalities of such a move, said the source.

Chidzambwa who quit his job as Warriors coach has been tasked with turning around the fortunes of Free State Stars, who survived relegation by a whisker last season.

Although he has never coached in South Africa, Chidzambwa has risen to become one of the most respected coaches in Africa after guiding Zimbabwe to their maiden appearance at the African Cup of Nations in 2004.

Chidzambwa is also credited for the success that Dynamos have enjoyed over the years in the CAF Champions League.
