Chidzambwa rues missed chances

sunday_chidzambwaJohannesburg ---Free State Stars coach, Sunday Chidzambwa (pictured), was left fuming after his wasteful team grabbed a draw from the jaws of victory in his first official match at the helm of the side.

The former Warriors mentor watched in frustration from the dugout at Botshabelo Stadium as the Free State outfit played to a goalless draw against visiting Santos as his forwards fluffed a few chances that came their way.

I am not a particularly a happy man because of the way we started the season. I think we should have done much better especially because it was our season opener and we were technically playing at home. We were a much better team than the visitors and the amount of chances we created in the first half indicated that we can play but couldnt put the ball at the back of the net. I personally think we could have buried two or three of those chances, Chidzambwa said after the match.

To be honest the team did not play to our strength which is to run at the oppositions defense with an aim of unsettling them. We persisted playing long balls which did not work to our advantage.

With the next match coming against perennial league favourites, Orlando Pirates next week in Johannesburg , Chidzambwa had every reason to be worried.

This match is now water under the bridge and we seriously need to shift focus to our next game against Pirates on September 8 at Orlando Stadium. I am satisfied with the display put on by the five debutants and I am positive that in the next game we will get a good result.
