Venue

A giant among banking-hall conversions, the born-again Pacific Oriental wins plaudits for the elegance of its palatial interior, lofty ceilings & impressive dimensions. In one vast space it manages to accommodate an informal bar, ground-floor brassiere & a fancy, fine-dining restaurant on the mezzanine. The restaurant is the setting for a reprise of the east/west fusion food that was such a hit at the original PO. Sushi & sashimi open the listings, but the repertoire mixes & matches at will, serving halibut tartar with tomato & coriander sorbet, pairing roast monkfish with clams, chorizo & galangal broth, & tricking out roast free-range chicken with sweet potato dumplings & fig chutney. The long wine list includes a generous showing of spice-friendly Rieslings & Gewrztraminers, along with a dazzling assortment of sake. You wont lack for oriental beers & fragrant teas either. The brassiere menu has a more assertive Thai bias.
