Econet provides a timely boost for Zimfest

econetZimbabwe's biggest global festival Zimfest received a timely boost when telecoms Giant Econet agreed to become a headline sponsor for the event through their new UK MVNO operation Econet Wireless UK.

The recently agreed package will see Econet Wireless UK granted exclusivity as telecoms partner to the event and will open up a number of cross selling opportunities for the two organisations.

Zimfest has set itself apart in the past 9 years as one of the best run Zimbabwean events on the UK calendar and has enjoyed a period of stability and growth which has seen it attract wider audiences.

Speaking about the sponsorship Zimfest organiser Hilton Mendelsohn said “This is fantastic news for us, we have always stated that we are all about celebrating Zimbabwe and there is no better partner to help us do this than one of Zimbabwe’s most successful companies. Our task now is to demonstrate real and tangible value to our new sponsors and to make sure than everyone who is aware of Zimfest is aware of Econet Wireless UK and how their mobile offering will help reduce everybodys calls home”

Econet’s launch comes at an opportune moment for Zimfest as this year will see the first appearance on their schedule of a networking event under the theme “Connecting Zimbabwe to the world” which has some obvious synergies with the new mobile service the company provides.

Econet has a presence in 14 countries in Africa and is the Market leader in Zimbabwe in the mobile telephone industry. The company has recently launched in the UK and is looking to establish its presence in the market. Company spokesman Gary McDonald said “Econet Wireless UK sees Zimfest not only as a sponsorship opportunity but a chance to support Zimbabwean endeavour. The progress made by Zimfest is impressive and we believe that our supporting them will help the festival achieve even better results in the future.”

Zimfest will be held in London on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of September and will feature top Zimbabwean musicians and groups like Mann Friday, Chiwoniso, Jusa Dementor and more. For information and updates go to www.zimfestlive.com
