Gibson Sibanda dies

sibanda_gibBULAWAYO - National Healing Minister and vice president of the breakaway faction of the MDC led by Arthur Mutambara, Gibson Sibanda (Pictured) aged 66 died early Tuesday.

According to MDC Mutambara Bulawayo Province spokesperson Edwin Ndlovu, Sibanda died at his home in Illanda Low Density suburb early this morning.

Yes its so sad the old man has gone ,he has been battling with cancer for a some time. He had been to South Africa several times where he was receiving treatment,said Ndlovu.

Sibanda was born in Filabusi Matebeleland South. He worked on the railways in the 1970s and was a trade unionist before going into politics as Welfare Secretary of Zapu.

He was the first vice-president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) in 1988 before serving as president from 1989. He was a leading member of the initiative for the ZCTU to establish the original MDC in 2000, being unanimously elected as vice-President of that party at its first congress.
