After meeting with the KP last week, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy, Edward Chindori Chiningi, told reporters outside Zimbabwe Parliament that the KP had emphasised the importance of transparency in the extraction of the diamonds.
“The KP team told the mines committee that NGOs should be allowed to play their watchdog function on the diamond issue to ensure that there was transparency,” said Chininga.
The call for the involvement of NGOs comes at a time when Farai Maguwo, a researcher, is being persecuted for attempting to tell the world the Chiadzwa story.
