The elections, held in the 2 000 seater-auditorium at the party headquarters at Harvest House, saw Zengeza East MP, Hon. Alexio Musundire being elected chairperson while Norton MP, Hon. Edward Musumbu was elected deputy chairperson. Hon Musundire is a renowned businessman and a holder of an MBA while Hon Musumbu is a veteran trade unionist.
Hon Musundire won the chairmanship after polling 1 200 while Senator James Makore, a veteran trade unionist, polled 1 100 votes. Other members are; Chari Parirenyatwa (secretary) Kaniso Makarumu (organising secretary) and Llyod Damba (information and publicity secretary). Emily Chipungu was elected deputy secretary while Patson Chipiro was unopposed for the position of deputy organising secretary. Chipiros wife, Dadirai was callously murdered on 6 June 2008 by soldiers and Zanu PF thugs.
True to the MDCs tradition of excellence, over 2000 people from all corners of Chitungwiza province converged at the party headquarters and held a peaceful poll that will see the province emerging stronger and ready to deliver real change. The delegates came from all the 12 districts of Chitungwiza province namely Norton, Goromonzi North, Goromonzi West, Goromonzi South, Seke Rural, Mhondoro-Ngezi, Mhondoro-Mubaira, St Marys, Zengeza East, Zengeza West, Chitungwiza South and Chitungwiza North.
The MDC won six of the 12 constituencies in the province and the new executive will work towards galvanising party structures. The provincial polls saw new leaders being elected in all wings of the province. The new chairperson of the Womens Assembly is Goromonzi ward 4 councillor, Martha Nhamburo, while the chairperson for the Youth Assembly is Albert Mashoko. The new Chitungwiza province leadership is a solid, united team of democrats who will steer all party programmes in the 12 districts. The election of the new province comes on the back of a massive party programme to consolidate and galvanise all party structures across the country ahead of the national polls scheduled for anytime next year.
As part of consolidating its ruling party status, the MDC will this week launch a new membership card. The new card will be unveiled on Saturday when President Tsvangirai will be officially handed over card number 001 in ward seven in Harare.

The MDC Chitungwiza province on Sunday held peaceful elections to elect a new provincial team as the party continues to galvanise all party structures across the country.
